On Parenting a Child with Anxiety

I sometimes get questions from people asking about identifying and treating anxiety in children, in particular social anxiety in children. "What do I do as a parent or teacher? How do I recognize social anxiety disorder in my child?" The short answer is a) be patient and supportive, b) listen to your child, a lot, and c) notice what they do, what their body says…and what they avoid.

Gender Differences and Anxiety

We have known for a long time that women are twice as likely as men to suffer from an anxiety problem, like Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and others. You might assume that women are more likely to ask for professional help (and studies suggest they are), but they are also more likely to report the symptoms for these problems in community surveys.
